THE GTEC Story
A program developed by Melvin White, a Beaumont native, The
Golden Triangle Empowerment Center is designed to help
people who are disengaged get the necessary work skills
to become successful workers in the industrial boom taking place
in Port Arthur.
The organization has already built a solid foundation in Austin
where his first job training program has an 80 percent success
rate.
Several years ago, State Rep. Joe Deshotel saw the positive
things that were taking shape in Austin because of White’s
program and he asked White to bring the program to Southeast
Texas. On the brink of an economic and industrial boom, the
timing for the program implementation could not have been better
than now.
White partnered with Motiva, Contex and other community outreach
programs to organize the creation of GTEC — a process that has
taken nearly 14 months. The inaugural class started October 15,
2007.
A Community
- Based Service
Since fear is a major
obstacle to hope, our team of trainers must help participants
overcome those fears which hinder development. For example,
there can be no hope of achieving a goal if the fear of
failure is so strong that one avoids setting goals in
order to avoid failing. After all, if you don't try something,
you can't fail at it.
